the effect of woman language and cultural gender-related ideologies on translation

recent translation studies have been increasingly focusing on translators as mediators between cultures around the world and have helped us to see how the translator`s identity as a necessarily gendered rewriter impacts their works. this research studied the translation of an indian woman writer`s language and perspectives at lexical level by two iranian woman translators to find the probable effects of the translators` gender-related language and ideology on their translations. to this aim, nine short stories in a collection called “interpreter of maladies” by jhumpa lahiri were selected and those lexical choices that according to lakoff (1990) and fairclough(1995) were affected by translators` use of language and their cultural gender-related ideologies were selected and compared with the original texts and were tabulated. finally, it was found that the woman translators were faithful to the language and style of the woman writer but their translations were affected by their cultural gender-related ideologies and perspectives
